The Department of Product Assessment Refrigeration & Air Quality of DMT GmbH & Co. KG carries out normative and non-normative tests on products for air conditioning (components and systems for air conditioning and air cleaning) and measurements for the determination of air quality in DMT GmbH & Co. KG's plant and product safety sector. Furthermore, a range of standard test dusts and test dusts to customer requirements are produced at both small and large scale, and these are developed and monitored in the particle and fibre analysis laboratories.
Test dusts are a kind of reference materials, which simulate real dust loadings. The most well-known standard test dust for filter testing and environmental simulations is the Arizona A2 test dust (fine), which is described in ISO 12103-1 with regard to its composition and particle size distribution.  Amongst others, it is used for testing according with ISO 5011, IEC 62885 (DIN EN 60312), 32-SAMSS-008 (ARAMCO) or the new ISO 16890-3.   Since the test dust consists mainly of quartz and has a median value d50.3 < 10 µm, an increased health risk potential is present due to the alveolar fraction, (carcinogen, TRGS 906). 
For this reason an alternative test dust, the so-called "DMT A2 fine quartz-free", which mainly consists of calcium magnesium carbonate and is not assessed as a carcinogenic hazardous material, has been developed by DMT GmbH & Co. KG.
